| They are a protected area with many kinds of fish. Some, such as the Grouper, which is found here in the largest numbers of the whole of the Mediterranean, has adopted this privileged zone to live in and reproduce. At the same time the Medas Islands contain an abundance of fauna; reptiles, mammals, insects and above all, birds. The seagulls occupy the whole of the islands. As for the flora, which is constantly under attack by the winds and the saltiness of the region, various species still manage to survive. Of course, some fauna and flora have been imported by the different inhabitants living there over the centuries | |||
| In fact, in
the middle ages, the islands were colonized and used as a refuge or
for defence, but they were abandoned in 1932. From then on nature took
over, and now is in control. Apart from the Medas Islands, l'Estartit suggests other excursions, but of different kinds |
